Adolph Menzel's painting “The Balcony Room” from 1845: the wind stirs a curtain in an empty room.

For artists and openings

Talk to every guest.

At an opening you can't get round to everyone. Your voice can. Say what you wanted to convey, what you felt while making the work and what is worth looking at. A guest's own reading of the work is valuable, but they may want to hear you too.

Today

An opening lasts two hours. Your story can last as long as the exhibition.

Too little time to talk

At the opening you talk to a dozen or so people. The other guests look at the work without you.

The curator's text isn't your voice

The wall text describes the work. It says nothing about how you feel about it, and guests never hear the artist.

Silence after the opening

Anyone who comes in the following weeks won't find you in the gallery.

Adolph Menzel's painting “The Balcony Room”.

Your work, told in your own voice, next to every piece.

You record short comments for your works: how they began, the emotions, the technique. Guests listen to them in front of the work whenever they like, and the work stays at the centre.

How it works

How to prepare it

All you need is a phone and a few minutes for each work.

  1. 1

    Record your comments

For each work, say what you want to say. The way you'd tell your friends.

  2. 2

Tidy up and choose a voice soon

Keep your own voice or let an AI voice read the text in other languages.

  3. 3

    Signs by the works

A small sign next to the label. Guests scan it and listen.

What you get

Your voice by every work

Guests hear the artist as well as the curator.

Other languages

Your comments in other languages, such as English and Spanish, for guests from abroad.

soon

The story stays

After the exhibition closes, the comments can live on in the app.

Questions

Do I need to be a good speaker?

No. Speak naturally; short pieces work best. You can also write the text and choose a voice.

Does the gallery have to agree?

Yes. We put signs by the works only with the host's consent.
